MAY 2017

Dear Friends,

“WHAT NEXT?” Interesting question, isn’t it?

Well, I’ve been thinking a lot about “what next” for the Chugwater and Wheatland congregations. As I begin my last month being your pastor, I believe that the “what next” for each of us would be raise our vison, our perspective of what it means to be the church today.

I know there are serious challenges facing both congregations in the near future – finances, declining membership, and purpose. Let me offer a few ideas:

First, don’t think of “what next” – think of “what’s possible.” What can the congregations do to enhance the Kingdom of God in the lives of its members? What’s possible?

Second, think about where you spend most your time. Are you witnessing to your faith to all you meet?

Third, set your path to help others become God’s people.

My last four sermons (April 30, May 7, 14, 21), I will attempt to answer the “What Next” question, with “Where do we go from here?” as my last sermon.

Andrea and I have really enjoyed our time with you for the past two years. I thank you for your support and friendship. You are all appreciated. Know that as we leave for Texas, each of you will be in our thoughts, prayers, and hope for the days, months, and years to come.

May God bless each of you.

Call me if you need me! (I don't text!)
Jim Welch

and Wheatland congregations at 10:30 a.m. at the Wheatland Church. A
carry-in will follow in the fellowship hall, where meat will be provided.
Please bring a vegetable, salad, or dessert to share.

farewell and good luck!

The United Methodist Women are now selling Equal Exchange, Fairly Traded
Coffee. This is the same coffee as they are providing during our fellowship
time. It is $9.00 for a full, one pound bag of ground, caffeinated,
Fellowship Blend coffee. It wiII be for sale after church in the Fellowship
Hall. Thanks for your support!

It's time once again to start saving your change for the "Bridge of Love"
offering to be taken to the annual conference in June. This year's
mission focus is on helping those who suffer from insecurity in regards to
where they will find healthy food and clean water. A container for collecting
your donations will be in the back of the church in mid-May.

Thank you for your support,
Kelvin L. Lay Leader

"We have thoroughly enjoyed having Andrea be a part of our church choir.
Her alto voice has been such a great addition! We wish her the very
best and will miss her greatly." WUMC Choir

The United Methodist Women (UMW) met on April 13, 2017, for our monthly
lunch, program, and business meeting. After we ate, Myrna K. presented
a brief program for the annual Call to Prayer and Self Denial. An offering
was collected, which will be sent to the national UMW organization for the
charities they support.

Myrna discussed the reading program choices, and passed out lists for readers
to help her choose what books to order for our use. The coffee sales have
been brisk, so WillaJean will order more coffee to replenish our stock. Rowann
reported that she sent box # 44 to the Kansas church for Project Patricia, and
that Gene sent 3 boxes of panties, so this church has sent 47 boxes so far. We
are so proud of y’all! More kits are available for the Cut-Ups to work on. Our
next Project Patricia meeting will be held on May 2 at 9:30 a.m. in the Fellowship

Plans for the upcoming Spring Tea and Silent Auction, scheduled for April 22, 2017,
at 2 p.m., were finalized. The Tea and Auction took place as scheduled. Everyone
checked out the auction items, placed their bids, and enjoyed their finger
sandwiches, relish tray, and delicious dessert. We received numerous donations,
so our sale offered everyone lots of choices. We offered the items that didn’t sell
to the congregation the following Sunday. Our thanks to everyone who donated, helped,
or attended. We couldn’t do any of this without you.

The UMW ladies will meet once more, on May 11, at noon, to wrap up this season. We
will not meet until fall, but will have a lunch get-together on July 13, either a
picnic in the park or at a local restaurant. Details will be finalized at the May

All ladies of the church are invited to attend any of these events. We need all the
help we can get to carry out the activities UMW does at WUMC and in our community.
If you need a ride to any of these events, please call Kathy W.

To Pastor Welch and Andrea,
A big thank you from the Church Secretary, Mandy (& Jordan)

Dear Pastor Jim and Andrea,
I just want to thank you so very much for offering me this opportunity to work for
the WUMC and CUMC as the church secretary. You are such wonderful people, and I
feel absolutely blessed that God brought you both into our lives and gave us the
privilege of knowing you! I must say, in the almost 9 months since I was offered
this position, you have both become like family to us and you mean so very much
to us! I couldn’t have asked for anything better to happen to me, at just the
right time. You have given me light and I really appreciate everything you have
done. I can’t tell you how wonderful it feels to know I am appreciated! We will
most definitely miss you very much, and I hope we will stay in touch! So, lastly,
may the blessings of good health, the joy of good friends, a loving family, and
the contentment of a job well done, fill your life with happiness!
Best wishes on your journey back in Texas (where the weather is only ‘slightly’
different than Wyoming!)
With Much Love and many blessings,
Mandy & Jordan Miller
